Celtic Tables

      by Cedric Dun Loghaire

Celtic feasts were served on small, low tables used by two or more persons. The feasters sat on low couches, on furs, or the ground. One such table was found in a bog in Tyrone. It was 28" by 16" and 5" high. Here is a simple, yet easy table to construct for authentic feasting.

        Materials:
          1- 1"x12" shelving board 24-30" long.
          2- 2" by 4" pieces 12" long.

Cut the 2x4/s to size and sand or smooth the ends. Sand or otherwise finish the edges of the shelving. Glue the 2x4/s to the bottom of the shelving (see figures 2 & 3). Clamp the 2x4's in place until the glue is dried. Then you can turn the table over and decorate the top with painting, carving or wood burning.
