Chocolate chip cookies 1/2 cup soft shortening 1/2 cup white sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 egg 1 tsp vanilla 2 cups flour 1/2 tsp soda 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup chopped nuts 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate pieces (about 1 1/4 cups) Heat oven to 375*F. Mix shortening, sugars, egg and vanilla thoroughly. Measure flour by dip-level-pour method or by sifting. Blend dry ingredients, stir in. Mix in nuts and chocolate pieces. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls 2" apart onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Cool slightly before removing from baking sheet. Makes 4 to 5 dozen 2" cookies.
